What tools can I use to impart change?
The art and the science of teaching in the post pandemic classroom
includes the important task of creating and supporting trauma informed classrooms climates. These concepts are rooted in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) where competencies in self-management of emotions, self and social awareness, relationship building and decision making, may serve as protective factors against emotional distress and academic challenges . (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (Casel, 2013).
Schools and classrooms which embody cultural responsiveness, are attuned to community needs, promote individual and community identity, and a sense of belonging for all children are more likely to be equipped to meet not only the academic needs but also the social and emotional needs of ALL of the children in the classroom.
